Parco Johan Galtung

Alfaz, una cittadina spagnola situata fra le montagne e il mare della Costa Blanca, ospita molte nazionalità. I Norvegesi sono al 3° posto dopo i nativi Spagnoli e gli Inglesi al 2° posto.

Il 15 giugno scorso Vicente Arques, sindaco di Alfaz, ha inaugurato un monumento, ideato dal famoso scultore basco Augustin Ibarroa in memoria delle vittime degli atroci attacchi terroristici di Oslo e Utoya in Norvegia del 22 Luglio 2011. Ha citato Gandhi: “Non c’è una strada verso la pace: la pace è la strada.”

Il monumento si trova in un parco a cui è stato dato il nome del prof. Johan Galtung , da molti anni residente a Alfaz, Norvegese di nascita, e conosciuto come “ il padre degli studi per la pace”, per il suo lavoro sulla pace in tutto il mondo e più recentemente in Nepal, Asia Orientale, Qatar, Bangladesh, Syria, Turchia e Stati Uniti d’America.

Galtung- nato nel 1930 come Ibarrola- molto commosso per questo atto di omaggio, ha ringraziato Alfaz per essere un modello di integrazione verso la pace. Ha condannato il terrorismo di qualsiasi genere, statale o privato, impegnandosi a continuare il suo lavoro per la risoluzione pacifica dei conflitti e per la “pace con mezzi pacifici” il motto di “TRANSCEND International”,- una rete per la pace, lo sviluppo e l’ambiente, una Organizzazione Non Governativa fondata nel 1993.

Between the mountains and the sea at the Mediterranean Costa Blanca, Alfaz is home to many nationalities. The Norwegians rank #3 after the native Spaniards and the English #2.

Today Alfaz Mayor Vicente Arques unveiled a monument by the famous Basque sculptor Agustin Ibarrola in memory of the victims of the atrocious Oslo and Utoya terrorist attacks in Norway on 22 July 2011. He cited Gandhi: “There is no road to peace; peace is the road.”

The monument is located in a park named in honor of a long time Alfaz resident, Prof. Johan Galtung, Norwegian by birth and known as ‘the father of peace studies’ for his peace work around the world and more recently in Nepal, East Asia, Qatar, Bangladesh, Syria, Turkey and the USA.

Galtung–like Ibarrola born in 1930– deeply moved with the distinction, thanked Alfaz for being a model of integration for peace. He condemned terrorism of all kinds-state and private-promising to continue his work for peaceful resolutions to conflicts and ‘peace by peaceful means,’ the motto of TRANSCEND International-A Network for Peace, Development and Environment, the NGO he founded in 1993.
